Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport-best fastest and most expensive

Bugatti veyron best and fastest car in the world
Bugatti’s Veyron is not the very latest  conclude this journey through 120 years of extraordinary automobiles. But it is highly appropriate as a truly grand finale. Because the Veyron is still the fastest accelerating— 0–62mph (0–100kph) in 2.46 seconds— production road car ever seen. And the most expensive of all time. With exactly 987bhp, it’s one of a tiny handful of so-called “standard” models to get anywhere near a four-figure power output, and with the second-highest ever top speed.

Volkswagen acquired the revered Bugatti brand in 1998, and resolved to do something spectacular with it, but it took until 2005 to build the factory and finalize the car itself; the Veyron 16.4. Mounted centrally was something never seen before in any car: a W16 engine with four banks of four cylinders—the equivalent of two V8 engines joined together. This puts its amazing power, boosted by four turbochargers, to the road via a sequential seven-speed gearbox and four-wheel drive.
There are a grand total of ten radiators to keep the car cool. The price for all this, plus fastidious hand-built quality, is a quoted €1.1m. But Volkswagen will make scant profit on its huge investment in making its new Bugatti a truly ultimate car. The vindication is that the Veyron has been independently proven to reach its 253mph (407kph) maximum speed. Active aerodynamics deploy automatically at 137mph (220kph) and “everyday” top speed is limited to 233mph (375kph).

The 10 Most Expensive Cars in the World

Money can’t buy you happiness. But it can surely buy you a flashy ride. If I were so stacked that Warren Buffett were borrowing money from me, I’d like to know what the most luxurious expensive, and in-your-face production cars were so I could by one, you know, for my maid.
The 10 most expensive cars in the world after the jump. And there’s a poll at the end.
10. Maybach 62 Sedan
10 maybach 62
Bringing up the rear at a moderately priced USD 390,000 is the Maybach 62 Sedan. Founded in 1909, but reintroduced by Daimler Chrysler in 2002, the Maybach is the #1 luxury car powered by a 5.5L twin-turbo V12 engine pushing 612 HP. Chauffeur is not included. Pity.
9. Porsche Carrera GT
9 porsche carrera gt
Priced at USD 420,000 the Porsche Carrera GT is powered by a 5.7L V10 engine producing 612 HP, and goes from zero to 60mph in a quick 3.5 seconds. 100mph will be up in 6.8 seconds. The Carrera GT was given the wheel base, air dams and carbon fiber body elements of a pro racer with street legal sensibility.
8. Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren
8 mercedes benz slr mclaren
The production of this USD 450,000 chick-magnet ended this year, but the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren comes with a 5.4L V8 that generates a maximum power output of 626 HP, taking it from zero to 60mph in 3.6 seconds. Top speed is 208mph.
7. Koenigsegg CCX

6. Saleen S7 Twin Turbo

3 lamborghini reventon

The Best Pickup Trucks

A Ford F-150 SVT Lightning pickup sat in the parking lot at Virginia International Raceway when the Special Vehicle Team introduced the media to the 390-horsepower 2003 Mustang Cobra last year.

As the Mustangs scorched the track all afternoon, the marshals sat at their stations the way they always do: stoically, like you should when all that separates you from dangerous race cars is a pile of old tires.

Then, after the Mustangs had pitted out, SVT chassis engineer Dean Martin fired out three laps in the Lightning truck. By his last lap, the marshals were standing up and cheering--astonishing, even considering that the Mustang beats the Lightning in the 0-to-60-mph sprint, 4.9 seconds to 5.8 seconds. And even if track marshals are particularly zealous pickup fans, market trends suggest that of the Americans (mostly men) who buy pickups, more and more are happy to spend extra to make their vehicles faster and more luxurious. Groundbreaking trucks like the Lightning, which Ford Motor (nyse: F - news - people ) released in 1992 (it's now in its third generation), have whetted a new appetite--the taste for pickup trucks as status symbols.

"Nothing like a utility vehicle should be that awesome and that exhilarating," John Coletti, SVT's chief engineer, says of his 380-horsepower truck with the supercharged V-8.

"The Lightning's the kind of vehicle that can probably take 90% of the muscle cars on the street," he says. "Do you know how cool that is?"

Well, it was cool enough to start a new segment of hot-rod pickups, and to provoke competition from DaimlerChrysler's (nyse: DCX - news - people ) Chrysler division and General Motors (nyse: GM - news - people ), in the as-yet unpriced 500-hp Dodge Ram SRT-10 (introduced earlier this year) and the 290-hp $41,995 Chevrolet SSR, which will pace this month's 87th Indianapolis 500.

Ford produced and sold 4,726 Lightning models for the 2002 model year. "All of our vehicle lines are profitable," says SVT spokesman Alan Hall.

More importantly, specialized pickups like these have forged a market for upscale trucks. Coletti says the Lightning sells to a well-to-do audience, 95% male, consisting of people who own two or three cars apiece.

"This is not his daily transport," says Coletti of a typical Lightning owner. "It's his toy."

In the United States, the market for full-sized pickup trucks--which is based on the full-size F-150 chassis--has doubled in the last decade to 2.2 million vehicles per year.

Top Ten Pickup Trucks, YTD Sales: February 2003
Model Units Sold
1. Ford F-series 115,847
2. Chevrolet Silverado 80,260
3. Dodge Ram 58,543
4. Ford Ranger 36,352
5. GMC Sierra 22,581
6. Toyota Tacoma 20,561
7. Chevrolet S-10 19,781
8. Dodge Dakota 16,360
9. Toyota Tundra 12,448
10. Chevrolet Avalanche 11,837
Trucks drive American vehicle sales. Ford without the F-series, its perennial sales leader, would be like Georges Bizet without "Carmen"--not much. Despite the growing market for niche pickups, the F-150 paces Ford sales, mostly by functioning as a work truck.

Ford has overhauled the F-150 for 2004, and its newest options reflect an increasingly affluent consumer base. Heated leather seats, DVD players and motorized rear windows are now available on the F-150, and the top-drawer F-150 Lariat sells for about $35,000.

More expensive pickups would mean bigger profit margins. Companies need to offset manufacturing costs, however, which can spike by four figures per truck at the $35,000 level.

And the scales are sliding toward more expensive pickups. Lincoln broke the $50,000 ceiling with the Blackwood, and even if that vehicle's carpet-and-stainless-steel bed and underpowered performance led it to almost immediate extinction, the market was there, as GM's Cadillac has found with its Escalade EXT pickup.

Cadillac reported 13,494 sales of the $51,215 Escalade EXT for 2002, and the company says the average EXT buyer is 51 and has a household income of $125,000. Previous truck ownership is common, and about half of EXT sales are "conquest" sales--vehicles dealt to people who do not own another GM product.

While $50,000 is pretty expensive for a truck, new pickups seem to be gravitating toward the $35,000 level. The Toyota (nyse: TM - news - people ) Tacoma begins the pickup market at $12,610, but the Chevrolet Silverado, Dodge Ram, Ford F-series, GMC Sierra, and Toyota Tundra lines can balloon to over $30,000. The new Chevrolet Avalanche pickup--one of the ten best-selling trucks of 2003 so far--starts at $33,139.

Part of this pricing trend comes from increasing sizes. Some vehicles are hoisting their companies to new size levels, like the forthcoming Toyota Tundra double cab, or the new Nissan (nasdaq: NSANY - news - people ) Titan full-size truck, which debuts in December.

But fancier pickup trucks, in addition to bigger ones, are helping to inflate the mean of pickup prices. Coletti speaks of a market for pickups with a "custom cruiser" look, like Ford's F-150 Harley-Davidson (nyse: HDI - news - people ) SuperCrew--a special trim level and engine package developed with Harley, and one of the coolest vehicles in the world--which sells for about $35,000.

Ritzier trucks from GM are on the way, like the GMC Envoy XUV, which uses a power-sliding rear roof, motorized midgate and drop-or-swing tailgate with power window to change into a sport utility vehicle. The Envoy XUV arrives this fall, and a Hummer H2 SUT (sport utility truck), due out next year, should buttress the Hummer H2 SUV, which is currently selling at the speed of light.

As the screaming flag-wavers at the track demonstrate, pickup trucks are certainly a lot of fun, and people who buy them for purposes outside of work tend to have emotional reasons for their purchase.

That's why the former American Big Three continue to lavish attention on the interiors of their pickups, making giant-volume products like the F-series (which found almost 814,000 buyers last year, despite a sales loss of about 100,000 units from 2001) more swanky, while the interiors of their passenger cars continue to trail foreign design and quality. It's almost as if Ford, General Motors and Chrysler, in their hearts, prefer to build pickup trucks.

In fact, the F-series has outsold all of Ford Division's sport utility vehicles--still the hottest market segment--combined for the last two years. The Escape, Explorer, Expedition and Excursion SUV lines sold 771,814 units in 2002, while the F-series sold 813,701. You can see why Ford likes to build pickup trucks.

Their enthusiasm becomes easier to understand after you see marshals on the track and pedestrians on the street cheering at a pickup truck with performance capabilities. Chevrolet hopes to ride this emotion to the bank: Its performance integration engineers specifically designed the exhaust noise of the SSR pickup to appeal to passersby.

Those who can afford fancy pickup trucks--and now don't have to look elsewhere to feed their addiction to heated seats--are free to spread the love.

World's Most Expensive Cars

What is the most expensive car in the world? The 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe was sold for $8,700,000 in 1987. However, that car and many alike will not be included in this list because it is not available on the market today. It is hard to imagine someone would actually spend 8 million dollars on a car instead of using it for something more productive. However, if you have the money and the opportunity, you will definitely spend a small fraction of it to place a few of these supercars in your garage. Here are the 10 most expensive production cars on the market.

However, the title for the fastest car goes to the SSC Ultimate Aero which exceed 253 mph pushing this car to 2nd place for the fastest car.
2. Lamborghini Reventon $1,600,000. The most powerful and the most expensive Lamborghini ever built is the second on the list. It takes 3.3 seconds to reach 60 mph and it has a top speed of 211 mph. 3. McLaren F1 $970,000. In 1994, the McLaren F1 was the fastest and most expensive car. Even though it was built 15 years ago, it has an unbelievable top speed of 240 mph and reaching 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. Don't let the price tag fool you, the 6th most expensive car is actually the fastest street legal car in the world with a top speed of 257 mph+ and reaching 0-60 in 2.7 seconds. This baby cost nearly half as much as the Bugatti Veyron, yet has enough power to top the most expensive car in a speed race. It is estimated that only 25 of this exact model will ever be produced.
SSC Ultimate Aero 3rd most expensive car in the world
